It’s like I always say, relationships require tender loving care. They do take work, but there are things we can do to make that ride a little bit more enjoyable. So you’ve just met someone, or you’ve been with your partner for a while, or you’re living together, or you’re married, or… well… you get my drift. No matter what stage of a relationship you’re at, you’ll always be seeking out new ways to spend time together and generally, create some unforgettable memories to look back on.
Sometimes in relationships, we argue more than we necessarily should. Granted we choose to have those arguments, but they could very well be rooted in life’s problems. Maybe someone’s had a long day at work and come home with a stick up their arse about a dish being left in the sink and suddenly, all hell breaks loose as you sit down to watch Grey’s Anatomy but they decided to play Call of Duty instead. You get my point, right? So, what’s the best escape from this situation to recharge your batteries and keep the flame going between you two? A romantic getaway of course. And I have 8 reasons to tell you why one is important.
1. It’s good to have something to look forward to
When you’re working 9-5 day in and day out and it’s the same sh*t different day, having a big red X on your calendar really drags you through the week. Plus, it’s pretty enjoyable planning things together, and saving the money that will soon become a travel pouch of dollar bills which, inevitably, will turn into 1 or 20 margaritas.
2. You get to spend your hard earned money on something other than bills
Let’s face it, if you’re putting aside $200 a month for power and internet, you’re probably going to want to wrap yourself in aluminum foil and stuff yourself into the microwave. However, if you know that money is going to be spent on fun in the sun (and the likes), you’ll soon find yourself being more savvy and enjoying every penny you spend.
3. You’ll be far, far away from every day distractions
There’ll be none of this ‘people randomly calling asking you for or to do something’ business, or those late evening phone calls from work which you really want to ignore but can’t, or your mom turning up and rambling off in your for an hour. Nope. Au revoir to every day distractions and bonjour to there being only one big distraction, being your significant other.
4. You’ll spend genuine, quality time together
Just the two of us… That’s the best thing about a glorious sunshine getaway, the time you’ll spend together. It doesn’t really matter what you end up doing, and I bet you’ll be surprised by the kind of things you end up talking about. I imagine you’ll find out even more about each other, perhaps things you never knew and it’ll be a great feeling, I guarantee it.
It’s far too easy when you’re surrounded by home comforts to be with each other in the same room, but not spend time together. When you’re away, you are literally forced to be together. Oh tragic. You know what this means ladies? When you talk, they’ll have to listen. Okay, I’m kidding, I’m sure he listens anyway, but you get where I’m coming from.
5. Your stress levels will decrease
In this time where it is nearly impossible to not stress tf out, a getaway is a perfect opportunity to reduce the stress that our days at home leave on us. Taking care of your own and your partner’s mental health by getting away from it all for a while is beneficial to the both of you.
6. You’ll do lots of fun things together while you’re away
It’s very much each to their own when it comes to getaways but regardless, I think it’s safe for me to assume that on a romantic getaway, you’ll actually want to do actual things together. This might look a bit different for you because of the pandemic and social distancing, but activities aren’t quite ruined. Plan a hike to explore the outdoors, have a candlelit dinner on the balcony of your Airbnb, etc. Enjoy yo’self!
7. Makes for good stories
Everyone has at least one memorable story from a previous vacation. Why not create new ones with your significant other? Ya know, the ones you’ll be able to tell your kids and grandkids about in the coming years.
8. You’ll grow closer in love
As you spend more time together, get to know more about each other, and make the effort to do things, you’ll become closer than ever and I’m certain you’ll sit at dinner one night and look at your significant other lovingly and feel overwhelmingly happy and think “damn, I love you.”
