Long work meetings, broken phone screens, and lack of sleep are just a few possible ingredients for a disastrous day. But when it comes to disorder, challenges do seem to come in waves. When everything seems to be going wrong, it’s tempting to draw up some dark conclusions quickly. Nothing is going right. My life is a hot mess express. The Universe is working against me overtime. But it’s in the moment of a crisis that you have to power up and create tomorrow’s success. Scroll down to discover 5 simple ways that’ll help when you’re recovering from a day where everything went wrong, and remember that tomorrow could be a really great one.
1. Refer to the basic needs checklist.
If you’ve ever played the Sims virtual game, you know that sometimes your Sims character begins to lose their energy bar when they don’t receive an adequate amount of their basic needs. The same goes for humans. Ask yourself the following questions. Am I hungry? Do I need sleep? Do I need a shower or change of clothes? You just might find out that you need all of these things. A nice hot shower, delicious meal and decent bedtime can change your life by morning.
2. Take a break from social media.
It’s no secret that social media can cause a lot of comparison, feelings of despair, and just uneasiness amongst people. Don’t dedicate the day to see what your ex is doing or check up on the perfect lives of online friends or strangers. Log off, and grab a book or your TV remote instead.
3. Accept the magical comfort of animals.
After an exhausting day, I love to just cuddle up with my pup. Animals are such a blessing in our lives and can bring so much comfort. It’s been said (and proven) that they can sense when we’re hurting and will be that shoulder for you to lean on, in a sense. If you don’t have a pet, you could try checking out the Netflix documentary DOGS. It’s nothing short of heartwarming and will give you all the feels. Animals remind us that the things we sometimes worry about are minuscule and often silly. Give your attention to an innocent animal and they’ll give you all the affection you need to turn your day around.
4. Hold off on anything important or life-altering.
A day where everything went wrong may cause you to snap or blurt out things that you wouldn’t necessarily say if you were in a good mood. You may be feeling the impulse to confront your partner about that big thing that’s bothering you, or make a drastic decision about work or finances. Your emotions are all over the place, your adrenaline is through the roof, and you’ve had to up to HERE with just about everything. Despite how you may feel during that moment, it is not the time to have big conversations or make important decisions. Take the night off, gather your thoughts, and relax. You’ll be grateful you did by tomorrow.
5. Change your perspective and bounce back.
Put your situation into perspective; that’s not to say you should stop feeling bad just because someone else has it worse but a little perspective makes it easier to rise above the BS. Minor incidents can often feel overwhelming when they pile on top of each other. There’s always something positive or comedic we can focus on no matter how terrible a day seems.
