How to Enjoy the Start of a New Season

I pull back the curtains and open the blinds in my living room that welcome the sun’s rays to enter the space. The evidence of the growth that is still to come in the season is obvious but some of the trees have sprouted and blossomed. This season is one where I can open the doors and let in the fresh air, in hopes all insects remain outdoors. Yet, I’m still not confident in putting away all of my light jackets and layers even when we have 70 degree days in the forecast. Georgia is notoriously known for bursts of warmth followed by a dazzle of chill via cold front. Spring is never a promise of anything but that we are closer to summer.

We are best to simply prepare our minds, bodies, and souls for the moment the season finally allows for the space for us to finally begin. Spring surely has arrived when we find ourselves in those moments. So here’s my list of things to do now that the new season is in town:

1. Clean

As most, I find it extremely relaxing and soothing to clean my home before the mid-season rolls around. And I’m not talking about a light dusting. I mean a DEEP clean, getting between every little crevice, disposing of useless items and minimizing where needed. This way when spring fully shows up in the end of April / early-May, I can focus on other things. I won’t feel the need to do “spring cleaning” because it’s already done before the true warm weather shows up. Being prepared for a season is one way to help welcome it in and feel like I am striving forward.

2. Buy a Few Plants

Many local greenhouses have started to stock some plants in their stores and will be extending their store hours now that spring is here. So go pick up some little plants to keep inside. Having greenery in your home will bring a sense of the season to your home even if outside it is still lingering in between cold and warm.

3. Go to the Gym

Now is an awesome time to get back to the gym. The gyms have cleared out of the resolution goers and summer will be right around the corner. Setting time aside to go is great for establishing a routine for yourself and body, but the endorphins produced by a good sweat session is really amazing when you are feeling down.

4. Find Your Happy Place

I absolutely love that we have more sun later in the day because I get to enjoy it by finding the warmest and sunniest spot in the house and just laying and basking in it. Probably because it makes me feel like I’m getting a dose of the beach + vitamin D (haha). You, too, might find that laying in the sun for even 30 minutes in your home can bring you a bit of joy.

Happy Spring, love!
